Need help editing images into a collage?

Hello, I need help editing a group of pictures I’ve gotten from the Internet into a collage for this school project due next week. I’ve got everything else finished, all I have to do is make this collage. I have GIMP but I’m quite shaky in using it and I do have Photoshop CS4 Extended but it is very slow on my computer plus I am practically a pro at Photoshop Elements if you’re going to suggest another Photoshop program (stick to Adobe when you suggest image editors for this).

Okay, the main focus is to blur the edges of my pictures like in these collages:

Except the pictures I have aren’t, like, in the same photoshoot as the above one in the link.

So here are the requirements for best answer (or any other answer, for the matter):

- how to blur edges as shown in the collage in the link
- how to make the final result high quality in either JPG, PNG, or GIF format

Thanks!
