How can i create a “visually appealing” collage?

I need to create a collage that is based off a certain word. This certain word can be any word like “free”, “dreams”. or “fear” or anything else of that sort. This collage needs to visually communicate that word in this collage. I have to use photoshop or illustrator to do this collage, so it will all be digital.
Can u give me any ideas for themes, besides the one i said (because i cant do these)?
And how can i make it so that it will be visually appealing?

For similar project what did was took pictures of letter which would make them together as genuine photographs.
