Help with PhotoShop CS4?

I just got photoshop, and I copied pictures from the internet to make a collage, and when I try to move one, it doesn’t move and it moves a red bar onto the screen. The picture was in black and white. I changed the channel from quick mask and RGB to only RGB, and that fixed it. But when I tried to copy a picture with color, it was invisible, even though it was selected. And then I tried to turn on quick mask, and all the parts of the copied picture that were black turned red (the same red) and all the colored parts turned transparent. How do I fix this?
come on, someone should know.
