adding pictures as layers?

I can’t figure out how to add pictures on a document in photoshop. I want to make like a collage and all a whole bunch of pictures to one document but it wont let me copy and paste..how do I do this?

When you open the photos into the workspace, click on them one at a time. Look over at the Layers Palette. See the photo’s layer? It says “Background” and has a lock on it. Right click on this layer and click on Layer From Background. Now, click on the copy layer that appears and do your edit and paste. After you’ve pasted and closed the original photo you opened, click “no” when the popup appears asking if you want to save changes.
